I've stayed in Holliday Inns Express 4 nights a week for the last 13 years. This one of my favorite places. The front desk people are to me the best in the business!!
All staff encountered were kind and very attentive. Breakfast was clean and well stocked. Room and amenities were of the same high standard you expect from Holiday Inn Express. Yes the room did seem to have higher levels of outside noise coming in than expected but it did not interfere with my rest.
Very dated hotel. The climate controls in the room looked like something out of the 70s. The sign by them said if your room is too warm in the winter, there is no fan, just open a window. Turning the fan on for noise blasted the heat at full, regardless of thermostat setting. Room was clean, if somewhat old. Definitely needs renovation. Not up to standards of newer HI-express properties. Wifi was slow, breakfast was free, but not good. Powdered eggs showed discoloration where they'd been left out for long lengths of time. Apple juice was watered heavily. Staff was very nice and courteous, it's just a shame they don't have much to work with. There's a reason it's the cheapest name brand hotel in Horseheads.
This place is perfect if you like staying at your grandparent's place where everything is old, a little bit sticky, and has spiders in the hard to reach places. That being said, there is nothing wrong with this place other than price, just be aware you are really not getting a room that is worth regular price, so get a deal. The room smelled nice and was clean, all of the workers we interacted with were extremely helpful and sincerely nice, and breakfast was actually good for a hotel breakfast (pancake machine instead of waffle machine!). Our bed was a full and not a queen, and people are smoking everywhere outside, but wasn't a factor inside. Even though this hotel had many positives, I can not give it anything more than 3 stars, as the price of the room does not match quality of the room.
Overall, a very nice stay at this hotel. The rooms were clean and well-furnished. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the free breakfast in the morning was fantastic. There was a wide selection of food, including the usual eggs and sausage, as well as some unique additions, such as pancakes and cinnamon rolls. Although the hotel is right next to a highway, it's far enough away that the sound of traffic doesn't bother you. All around, a great hotel. My only complaint is that the AC/Heater system is a bit outdated, but it still works fine.
